What is it about drs and their wanting to get into the woman's hootchie the first time they meet you? Good Lord, Im telling you. Let me back it up a bit. Last year we switched insurances and as such had to change doctors. He'd had to go in for an appointment at this new dr and I went along just to get out of the house mostly. When we get there, the waiting room's empty and my darling husband, knowing my toes had been really hurting, asked if there was an open appointment after his and there was. So I fill out the paperwork and go in so the dr can see my toes. I had an infection in both big toenails due to them being constantly ingrown...they'd been like that for years but they'd gotten really bad over the last 6 months or so. I go in and it's supposed to be a simple exam right? I can see you wondering what this has to do with my first sentence....LOL. Ohhh no, I get the 20 questions as well and one was "When was your last pap?" UMmmmm it had been a while, ok I admit that. The next was "How about we do one right now?" Ummm no...I came in for my toes...not a hootchie checkup. Thankfully she waited for our second "date" to go there again.
Ok so fast forward to Thursday the 2nd...I go into the obgyn figuring on maybe some blood drawing and a nice discussion. Ya know a kinda get to know ya visit (Whatever happened to those? Did they ever exist?). One of the first questions Im asked is "When was your last pap?" This I can answer...it was July 5th. Less than a month ago and it was clean. Ok so the dr has this info I figure Im good right? OOOH no. Im told to drop everything from the waist down and hop on the table where she goes ahead and does another anyhow. Im getting a little tired of metallic instruments being shoved where they aint meant to be! I mean it wouldnt be so bad if it felt good but damn it's uncomfortable.
After being poked, prodded and generally violated with some probe Im sat down for a talk. First of all, they want to draw blood to check for thyroid issues (which my PCP has done and there isnt a problem but Im borderline enough where it every now and then throws an abnormal reading) as well as sugar (and other thing the dr checks regularily due to my family having diabetes on both sides) and 2 different male hormones that could be flummoxing things up(Gee...ya think? Maybe the facial hair is a give away there? The fact I gotta pluck not just once daily but sometimes 2-3 times a day?). We discussed when my last cycle had been and she told me to wait 2 weeks from the appointment and if I hadnt cycled again (as that's when I should be due) I was to fill my Provera (the 10 day wonder pills that will help jump start my cycle), take a pregnancy test and if it came back negative take the Provera. Once my cycle starts Im to call her office and what they're going to do is set me up an appointment in the hospital. There's this one test they need to do to see if the fallopians are blocked. The best time to do it is 4-5 days after I cycle. In between the time of that and my next obgyn appointment (September 16th?) hubby will need to go in for his own ummm tests because it aint just a one person deal here. If all the testing comes back clear, then what she's going to do is put me on glucaphage for 3 months. With any luck this will correct some of the internal issues I may be having. If that doesnt work then she'll be adding another medicine to the arsenal (starts with C and I cant remember what it is...). If the test dont come back clear then we'll discuss what all needs to be done at that point. They drew blood that day as well....3 full vials worth. Gee I hope they got enough, I wouldnt want a vampire starving somewhere *insert eyeroll*. The nurse was really good though. She was fast and did it virtually pain free. She didnt even leave much of a bruise. You could hardly tell she took blood. I havent heard back on any of those tests yet but for all I know those test may take a while to do. When I call for my next appointment, I will ask about them.
Like the decor? The banner has that fuzzy flannel look to it and although Im not fond of yellow, it does go well with purple. The yellow actually is to stand for hope....plus if I get pregnant this will be a nice look for when it turns into the "Pregnancy Watch" page :).

This page has a nice warm feel to it.
Kinda like a fuzzy receiving blanket ;). Good, then I got the right look. Thanks for the confirmation on that.
The color is very calming.
I know what you mean about docs trying to check the hootchie when you're in there for something completely unrelated. LMAO at the "date" comment!
I love google! I knew Glucophage was for diabetics, but couldn't understand why your doc would consider putting you on it. Now I know!! It also lead to lower male hormone (androgen) production, which would explain the excessive facial hair and also the irregular cycles.
Man do I hear ya about the first meeting with the doctor! I recieved the same greeting... "Drop everything from the waist down!" What ever happened to "hello, nice to meet you"???
The pill they're going to put you on if the other doesn't work... The one that starts with 'C'... It wouldn't be Clomid (Medical name Chlomaform something or other... Or something like that) by any chance, would it? Because, that's the pill I've just been put on.
Clomiphene?
Thank you for the reminder to Google. I never think to look there unless Im looking for banner supplies ;).
Both those names sound right Tori and Alice. I know it wasnt one I recognized and it definitely know it wasnt Compazine as that's an anti-nauseal and Im allergic to it.
Im going to need to remember to ask the obgyn what the gluc. is going to do. I realize it's going to help with the male hormone, but obviously I'll need to make dietary changes as Im sure it's going to mess with my sugar. If I recall the gluc tends to lower sugar. When my sugar decides to fluxuate it tends to crash as oppose to go all hyper on me. *makes note to talk to dr*
Thought it might have been. My doctor told me if they are certain that there is no hormonal issue (which in my case, there isn't) that's the first thing they try. Quite often it's all it takes.
I know someone who had it (this was almost ten years ago mind) and by the third month was pregnant. After the baby (who turns nine the end of the month) was born, she went on the pill injection. Stopped it after his 2nd birthday and promptly got pregnant again. That kid will be seven on October 1st. Same thing happened a couple of years later. Her third child turned four a month or so ago. I hope we're that lucky! Though, I'd be happy with just the one right now. And, I'm sure you would too!
No matter what you take, you need to watch your diet.
By the way, I REALLY like the warm, cozy feeling of this page!
